45,(1) p. Red and green wrapper over stiff card cover. Oblong, 19x21.5 cm (No. 17 of 325 copies printed; 25 copies were reserved for the artist and the publisher, and not in commerce. It was published as volume 8 of the series 'De Gouden Hommel'. This book contains 2 original etchings, the first of which is a tipped in frontispiece, printed in green, red and black, called 'l'épreuve de l'artiste' and entitled 'Horse and Rider'. It is dated 1955, and signed by the artist in pencil 'Ru van Rossem '55'. The second etch is also tipped in, and is a specimen of a bookplate, or ex-libris, of the Amsterdam bookcollector 'G.J. Rhebergen Jr', depicting 4 naked women, and initialed RvR and dated '54. It is said that Rhebergen had made 400 different bookplates by different artists. The text contains 27 illustrations, most of them black and white. The first illustration is a picture of the artist, and 1 full page illustration is coloured. The Dutch artist Rudolf (Ru) Harold van Rossem, Amsterdam 1924 - Tilburg 2007, who was reckoned to belong to the top of Dutch graphic art in his time, is best known for his drawings and etches, depicting animals and figures of old and foreign cultures and mythologies. He was also a successfull sculptor. His work is found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Victoria and Albert Museum (Londen), Museum Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam) en the Rijksprentenkabinet.
